The payments system provides a foundational infrastructure which is increasingly set to drive the future of financial inclusion in Kenya. All retail financial services necessarily ride on the rails of the payment system to some degree. The impact of payment system related transaction costs is especially significant in relation to the relatively small-sized transactions in which low-income households are engaged. These transaction costs need to be seen from a customer perspective and include the overall cost of accessing the system.
FSD Kenya has been involved in work relating to payment systems for several years through its Payment Platforms project. The aim ofthe project is to identify the options for industry-led initiatives to create an efficient and sound interoperable retail payment platforms. Day to day implementation of the project is managed by a Programme Manager. We now need a highly-driven individual to assist the Programme Manager in the delivery of various project tasks.
Reporting to the Programme Manager Payment Platforms, the Assistant Project Manager will assist in the provision of day-to-day management and implementation of the project which will entail; providing technical support to experts and consultants working on the project, supporting in project analysis and design, managing the projects’ documentation process as well as project cycle management and supporting the procurement process.
Strong project management skills will be vital to this position. You will be required to engage with a diverse range of partners and stakeholders and must therefore possess strong interpersonal skills. To succeed, you will need to be agile, be highly motivated and able to deliver on a demanding set of outputs against tight timelines. At a minimum you will have:
- Relevant academic/professional qualification (minimum of bachelor degree)
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a similar position
- Demonstrable strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise and be proactive
- Relevant work experience in the financial services industry
- Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
