National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF)


The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) of Kenya is a social health insurance fund that provides inpatient cover at hospitals nationwide. NHIF membership is open to all Kenyan adults and dependents who have a monthly income of more than Ksh 100. Formal sector employees’ contributions are paid to the Fund by their employers through traditional banking or through “e-banking” ( For voluntary members (informal sector, self-employed, retiree), premium payments of Ksh 500 per month can be made via traditional banking or through M-Pesa.
